Let Frankston entertain you. Cinemas are located in the Frankston CBD and at Star Zone Karingal, surrounded by restaurants and nightlife. There’s several cultural and arts venues offering museums, galleries and theatre events. The dining-out choices in Frankston are endless with cuisines to suit all tastes.
Frankston also offers an abundance of education opportunities. There are several state and private primary and secondary schools within the city and Frankston is home to Chisholm Institute of TAFE and Monash University’s Peninsula campus.
Getting close to nature is easy with parks and playgrounds scattered throughout the city. The George Pentland Botanic Gardens, established in 1975, was originally the site of a nine-hole municipal golf course. The picturesque gardens were redeveloped as native botanic gardens and today they are free to visit, housing a collection of native plants with walking tracks throughout and a central lake.
Ballam Park surrounds the Ballam Park Homestead - the first brick house built in the district. The two-storey homestead, built for Wilburham 'Frank' Liardet from 1847 to 1854 by tradesmen, convict labour and Liardet's two sons, still stands today. Many of the home’s features were imported from France – the fine cedar and mahogany staircase, leadlight sashes and its deep bow windows – and the homestead is now open to visitors. Ballam Park also has an athletics track and adventure playground.
Frankston’s aquatic leisure centres are at Jubilee Park and the Pines Forest Swimming Centre. Jubilee Park is a heated indoor swimming centre with a 25-metre six-lane pool, learners' pool, heated spa, sauna and change rooms and it’s open seven days a week. The Pines Forest Swimming Centre has a 50-metre outdoor six-lane swimming pool, toddlers’ pool, giant waterslide and slide pool. It’s open from November 1 to March 31.
For water sport enthusiasts, there’s plenty to do with Port Phillip Bay the perfect spot for swimming, wind-surfing, sailing and fishing. Frankston also has sporting facilities for tennis, squash, basketball, netball, soccer, football and bowls. And there’s bike riding trails and bushwalking within the municipality. The Mornington Peninsula region is also home to some world-class golf courses.
